Sustainability at Our Academy

At St Aidan's, we are proud to be part of the Cidari Multi Academy Trust, a family of schools dedicated to achieving excellence in education while fostering a sustainable future. We believe that providing a thriving environment is essential for every child to reach their full potential and flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Climate Action Plan

In response to the global climate crisis and in alignment with the UK Government national climate goals, the Trust has published a comprehensive Climate Action Plan. This strategy serves as our roadmap to reduce our carbon footprint, integrate environmental stewardship into our curriculum, and promote sustainable practices across our entire community.

Our commitment is built upon five key pillars:

  • Estates and Operations: We are working toward significant reductions in energy, waste, and water consumption by 2030. This includes investing in LED lighting, optimising heating systems, and implementing robust recycling programs.
  • Curriculum and Education: Environmental themes are being embedded across all curriculum areas. We use our outdoor learning spaces to connect pupils with nature and develop the critical thinking skills needed to solve future environmental challenges.
  • Student Leadership: We empower our pupils to be agents of change. Every academy is establishing Eco-Councils and environmental clubs to ensure student voices are at the heart of our decision-making.
  • Biodiversity: We are dedicated to increasing biodiversity on our school sites by creating wildlife habitats—such as wildflower meadows and bug hotels—and planting native trees.
  • Community Engagement: Sustainability is a collective effort. We actively collaborate with parents, local environmental organisations, and businesses to share best practices and resources.

Leadership and Accountability

To ensure we meet our goals, the Trust has established a clear governance structure:

  • Trust Climate Action Lead: Oversees the implementation of the plan across the MAT.
  • Academy Climate Champions: A designated staff member at our school coordinates local climate action.
  • Regular Reporting: We use robust data collection to monitor our progress in energy, waste, and travel, providing annual progress reports to maintain transparency.

"By working together—pupils, staff, parents, and the wider community—we can achieve our goals and uphold our moral purpose to create a flourishing environment for the next generation."
